When the Cadillac CTS dropped onto the market, it was available in a variety of versions, including a sedan , a coupe , and a station wagon . Now, the same recipe for success will be applied to the new ATS . Cadillac
will first put out a sedan and a coupe version, but a station wagon
version and a convertible are also said to be in the mix. Why? Well,
Americans need cheaper alternatives to German coupes and Cadillac is
ready to deliver just about anything we’re looking for in order to pick
up sales. They have the platform to build on and will more than likely
make sure they get their money’s worth on it.
The upcoming ATS
Coupe will be revealed for the 2014 model year and will borrow just
about everything from the sedan version, except for the sedan’s two rear
doors. It will get the same active shutter grille, LED-infused
headlights, chrome trim, vertical taillights, and integrated trunk
spoiler. Other minor changes will make the Coupe a sportier rendition of
the sedan.
The ATS Coupe will be built on the same
rear-wheel-drive Alpha platform and will be offered with the same engine
line-up as the sedan: a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder with 200 horsepower, a
turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder with 270 horsepower, and a
3.6-liter, V-6 with 318 horsepower. The engines will be combined with
either a six-speed manual transmission or an automatic transmission.
There will also be an option for an all-wheel-drive system.
Updated 11/25/2013: According to a report coming from Edmunds, the ATS Coupe will be officially unveiled at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show and will be put on sale later in the summer of 2014.
Competition
BMW 4 Series Coupe
The
ATS’ main competitor is the BMW 3 Series, so, the ATS Coupe will of
course aim against models like the BMW 4 Series Coupe. Both the 4 Series
Coupe and the ATS Coupe will feature a more sportier look that their
sedan brothers, so they are both expected to deliver a better driving
experience. Which one will do best we’ll just have to wait and see.
The
4 Series Coupe is offered with two versions: 428i and 435i. The 428i
will come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that
delivers a total of 240 horsepower, while the 435i gets a
twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter, in-line-six engine with 300 horsepower.
Prices for the 4 Series Coupe start from $41,425.
Another
great car, but a little bit out dated at this point is the Audi A5. It
features a great look its true, but lets face: who will share interest
in a sports coupe that only comes with one engine option?
The A5
is offered in three different trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus and
Prestige. All of them are offered with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine
that delivers a total of 211 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
The A5 is priced from $37,850.
