Honda Considering an NSX Roadster

We are still waiting for the official debut of the NSX , but it looks like Honda is already considering a roadster version for the upcoming hybrid sports car.

In a recent interview with the AutoCar, Principal Designer Jun Goto said that Honda is looking into offering a convertible version, but the execution of suc a vehicle is still a long ways off, so do not expect to hear any official confirmation of a production model for at least two years after the coupe rolls out, if ever.

Unlike the original open-top NSX , which featured targa panels, rumors point toward he future open-top NSX being a real roadster with either a hard or a soft top.

As for the coupe version, he said that the production version will carry over about 95 percent of the styling elements we saw on the concept version, but that the production model will be larger. As for the interior, according to Yuki Inamori, the NSX’s interior designer, it will be "even more exciting than what you see [in the concept]."

The production version Acura/HondaNSX will be likely unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show .

Honda NSX

The NSX is powered by a mid-mounted, direct-injected, V-6 engine and Acura ’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system. The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD uses a trio of electric motors – one mated to the engine and two driving the front wheels – to help boost the V-6 engine’s performance and overall vehicle stability. This system delivers a total of 400 horsepower and will sprint the NSX from 0 to 60 mph in around 4 seconds.

The new Honda NSX — Acura NSX for the U.S. market — will be produced at an all-new, 184,000-square-foot Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio.
