Toyota Fortuner 2.5 L

Earlier you had seen the launch of the face-lifted Toyota Fortuner
with quite a few modifications. But the heart of this SUV remained
untouched, well that is all about to change now with the introduction of
a smaller 2.5 litre engine.
This new engine will make a perfect addition to the Fortuner range
as it will be a cheaper option not to mention a more fuel efficient one
over the current 3.0 litre diesel D4-D unit. The 2.5 litre D-4D has
been available in other markets and now its been upgraded with its old
turbo replaced in favor of a variable nozzle (VN) turbine. Also
installed is a top-mount intercooler on the upgraded engine which
explains the hood scoop. The result is that this 2.5 litre unit makes
144 PS @ 3400 rpm with 343 Nm @ 1600-2800 rpm. To put that in
perspective the larger 3.0-litre unit makes 171 PS and 343 Nm of torque.
As you can see not that much difference, this is because Toyota
has upgraded the forced-induction system which has bought an increase of
41 % in power and 32 % increase in torque. This Fortuner with this
upgraded unit will be launching in Malaysia soon, all the more reason to
believe that this engine will also come to India.
This is something that will only increase the appeal of the
Fortuner plus the expect the 4×4 option with the 2.5 L Fortuner too.
Though in the Thai market this engine in the Fortuner is only offered
with the 5-speed manual. There’s a possibility that it will arrive with
an automatic option.
We expect the 2.5 L Fortuner to come soon and also sporting an even more competitive price-tag. Watch this space!
