Highlights
November 05, 2014: Nissan retailed 2 million units of its SUV Qashqai in UK. It achieved this number in a  record time of 8 years since its launch in December 2006. While in India Nissan has been testing several new products for the domestic car market and lately, its focus has been the SUV segment. The Japanese manufacturer's Indian counterpart is testing the Qashqai at its Chennai plant. As of now, Nissan only offers the Terrano compact SUV and to increase its footprint in the growing SUV market in the country, the automaker is looking forward to introduce the Qashqai SUV. Qashqai and X-Trail are based on the same platform with the former sitting below the latter in pricing.
Overview
The Nissan Qashqai has seen a lot of makeovers in the recent past and it is now available in both petrol and diesel engine options in overseas market; both have two variants each. The diesel engine range comprises of of 1.5 dCi and 2.0 dCi while the petrol variants are powered by a 1.6 litre and a 2.0 litre engines. One can also get a 4X4 drive top end variant with both the engines. The company had launched a larger seating capacity variant of Nissan Qashqai globally that is christened 'Qashqai+2'  and has a 7 seater option while the older version is only a five seater.

The Nissan Qashqai 1.5 litre dCi, in-line 4 cylinder diesel engine churns out a maximum power of 106 hp at 4000 rpm and belts out peak torque of 240 Nm at 2000 rpm. The higher cubic capacity 2.0 litre, 1994cc, in-line 4 cylinder, diesel mill of the Nissan Qashqai produces a top power of 110 hp at 4000 rpm and generates highest torque of 320 Nm at 2000 rpm. Both the engine variants are coupled with 6 speed manual gearbox while the 4X4 variant of the Qashqai is incorporated with both 6 speed manual and automatic transmission.

The Nissan Qashqai petrol engine comes with two options i.e. 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre; the 1.6 litre, HR16DE, in-line 4 cylinder petrol powertrain develops a top power output of 115 hp at 6000 rpm and pumps out peak torque of 156 nm at 4000 rpm. The 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder, 1997cc engine generates maximum power of 140 hp at 6000 rpm and lays out a top torque of 196 Nm at 4800 rpm. The 1.6 litre variant is mated with a five speed manual gearbox while the top end petrol variant comes incorporated with a 6 speed manual CVT transmission.

The Nissan Qashqai is loaded with sufficient safety features to secure all the occupants inside the car; 6 airbags are fitted in the driver, passenger, side and curtain side along with passenger airbag cancel switch. The car is equipped with front active headrests, ABS with EBD and brake assist system, Isofix, Immobilizer and Driver lumbar support. Apart from that the car is to come here with most comfortable features including Air conditioning, Keyless entry, Rain sensing wipers, Remote audio & computer switches on the steering wheel, Auto Headlamps, Halogen headlamps with manual levelizer and reminder chime, Front seat lifter (driver only), Driver & passenger front and rear door pockets, 60/40 split single folding rear seats, UV filter glass, Two vanity mirrors, Power steering wheel (tilt and telescopic adjustment), 2 front cup holders, Front & rear powered windows, Rear Centre Armrest with 2 cup holders, Driver & passenger front and rear door pockets, Silver finish (inside door grip, steering wheel), Sliding function on front centre armrest, etc.

The upcoming Nissan Qashqai is designed to give more space in a comparatively compact body. The exterior of the car looks smaller than conventional SUVs but it is for a fact, roomier inside. The front fascia of the crossover looks compact with wider honeycomb shaped front grille that houses Nissan logo in chrome, you will also find neatly attached human-eye shaped headlamps while the lower air intake with wide smile; the front fog lamps are packed in oval shape slot. The ORVMs are electronically heated and come in body color; door handles are also wrapped in body color. The rear side of the Nissan Qashqai seems just like a hatchback and gets a lot of illumination that serves as a safeguard for cars moving behind. It has a spoiler integrated high stop lamp, three reflectors at the lower side and horizontally stacked LED tail lamps that have turn indicators.

The interior of the Nissan Qashqai is as elegant as the rear one; the dashboard houses audio system, instrument panel, AC vents and a glove box; the steering wheel of the car is powered and allows tilt and telescopic adjustment: it also has mounted audio and display screen controls. The older version of the crossover is a five seater while the new one is a seven seater affair. There is ample room for leg, hip, shoulder and head in every seat row.
Acceleration & Pick-Up
The upcoming Nissan offering, Nissan Qashqai comes in both diesel and petrol engine range. Both the engines are offered with two engine choices each with different output. The base model in the petrol engine range is powered by a 1.6 litre, HR16DE, in-line 4 cylinder powerplant which ensures maximum power of 115 hp at 6,000 rpm and produces a top torque of 156 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Another variant of this range includes a 2.0 litre, in line 4 cylinder, 1997cc, petrol engine that develops 140 hp of peak power at 6000 rpm and delivers top torque of 196 Nm at 4800 rpm. The 1.6 litre petrol engine features a five speed manual gearbox while the 2.0 litre engine comes coupled with a six speed manual CVT gearbox. A 2.0 litre 4X4 drive variant is also offered by the company with CVT transmission. The petrol variants are equipped with powerful engines that help to get agile acceleration and performance.

The diesel Nissan Qashqai comes in two engine options that are 1.5 dCi and 2.0 litre. The 1.5 dCi, 4 cylinder diesel mill of the Qashqai lays out a top power of 106 hp at 4000 rpm and cranks out a peak torque of 240 Nm at 2,000 rpm via six speed manual transmission. The higher end diesel variant is powered by a 2.0 litre, in line 4 cylinder, 1994cc engine which outputs maximum power of 110 hp at 4,000 rpm and delivers peak torque of 320 Nm at 2,000 rpm with the help of a six speed manual gearbox. The third variant comes with 4X4 drive capability that is mated with a six speed manual and automatic transmission. With the improved powertrain and other supporting technology, you can cruise your vehicle with zipper acceleration in city and on highways.

Engine and Performance
The Nissan Qashqai is available in overseas market in both petrol and diesel engine options with different engine capacities; these engine choices are reported to be available for Indian version of the Qashqai. The present model of the compact crossover sports two trims of diesel engine that are 1.5 dCi and 2.0 litre; the former is a in line 4 cylinder affair that has enough guts to crank out a top power of 106 hp at 4,000 rpm and pumps out a top torque of 240 Nm at 2,000 rpm while the latter variant is powered by a 1994cc, 4 cylinder diesel engine that comfortably delivers maximum power of 110 hp at 4,000 rpm and lays out a peak torque of 320 Nm at 2,000 rpm. A 4X4 variant is also available with 2.0 litre diesel engine that incorporates six speed manual and automatic gearbox while the front wheel drive 1.5 dCi and 2.0 litre variants are mated with 6 speed manual transmission.

Power of Nissan Qashqai
